AcA is proud to host the American Association of Community Theatre Region VI Festival from April 6-8, 2017.

AACTFest 2017 Region VI is a five-state competition with state-winning theater groups from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas competing for a chance to advance to the National finals later this Spring. Louisiana did not field an entry this year. Competiton rules require companies to adhere to strict guidelines: each play must be performed in under 60 minutes, all sets have to be installed and de-installed in under 10 minutes and all traveling sets have to fit in a 10’x10’ box! This will make for a unique audience experience, full of fast-paced excitement and suspense. Visiting theater groups perform at the highest level and at the end of the competition one winner will be crowned.

The AcA will also host an array of events to entertain our guests and connect to the community.

AACTFest PERFORMANCES

Join us to see performances by our talented guests! Shows are presented in blocks of 2 performances each. Each ticket block is $15, or $12 for students.

Friday, April 7th:
FRIDAY NIGHT BLOCK A:

7pm - New Mexico - Community Players of Hobbs – THE GLASS MENAGERIE by Tennessee Williams
A drama of great tenderness, charm and beauty, THE GLASS MENAGERIE is one the most famous plays of the modern theatre. Iconic characters such as domineering Amanda and withdrawn Laura inhabit this family drama of illusion and truth.

8:30pm - Texas - Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center - ANSWERS by Tom Topor
Having been detained for questioning, in a crime about which he claims to know nothing, a suspect is grilled by two persistent police officers. Have justice and truth indeed been served? Or has another hapless victim been sacrificed to society's inexorable need for retribution at any cost?

Saturday, April 8th:
SATURDAY MATINEE BLOCK B:

2pm  Arkansas - The Studio Theatre – BUYER AND CELLAR by Jonathan Tolins
Alex More is a struggling actor in L.A. who takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar. BUYER AND CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and oddest of odd jobs.

3:30  - Oklahoma - Onstage Woodward – A CASE FOR BELONGING by Jan Allred.
A Devil and an Angel are on stage, battling over a man who is about to expire. Irrepressible, tongue-in-cheek humor.

SATURDAY EVENING BLOCK C:

7pm  - Oklahoma - Sandsprings Community Theatre – TOMATO PLANT GIRL by Wesley Middleton
This powerful exploration of friendship delights young audiences. LIttle Girl is the new kid in Heretown. When her friendships collide and Little Girl has to choose between friends, she discovers the power of making up her own rules.
