Steven Breaux, Professor of Visual Arts at UL-L, will have an exhibition of work entitled Waking Space that involves the merging expressions of art and science. The simple beauty of graphs, diagrams, and mathematical formulae are revealed as representations of thought and visualization that can carry subjective as well as objective information. Though most artists and scientists consider graphs and diagrams as the cast-offs of minds heading toward other endeavors Breaux reveals an intrinsic richness and depth when combining a variety of visual information from art history, culture and eastern philosophy. Waking Space will be on exhibit at the Acadiana Center for the Arts October 14 – December 16, 2017.
Professor Steven Breaux has taught at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette since 1996 teaching Art and the Computer and Advanced Drawing. Breaux received an MFA from Florida State University in Painting. His work, ranging from painting, drawing and prints to video, has been accepted regionally, nationally and internationally for inclusion into galleries, catalogues and exhibitions. In 2015 he was invited to present his abstract, Waking Space: The Emerging Art Object, Quantum Theory, and Algorithmic Art at the Science of Consciousness Conference in Helsinki, Finland. The abstract was later published.
This project is funded in part by ArtSpark, a collaboration of Lafayette Economic Development Authority and the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
