SUMMARY:Karen deClouet: Various Shapes and Sizes
DESCRIPTION:Shown for the first time in the United States, this comprehensive collection of ukiyo-e paintings brings the “floating world” and its metropolitan amusements to life.\n“This body of work reflects pieces that combine my painting process with segmented landscapes I’ve painted from photographs. I build up a ground with broad applications of color, slice up the space with geometric shapes and interweave other spaces, sourced from photographs, into the composition. Through this process I am finding new ways to present a space for the viewer’s eyes to wander.\nThe photos represented in the paintings include photos I have taken myself, photos my father took out West in the 1960s and completely random images of outdoor spaces, pulled from calendars or print catalogs.\nThe paintings fuel each other. I often work on multiple pieces at once. Sometimes segments of photographs will reappear in multiple paintings while other paintings are completely absent of any photographic source material. I approach my work with the intent to create completely new spaces, that are the result of challenging the source material and the process behind it.”\n-Karen deClouet\nPartners & Sponsers\nPainting the Floating World: Tokitp’s Masterpieces from the Weston Collection is generously sponsored by lohher L. and Joll comesrs.\n
