SUMMARY:President’s Circle Reception | John Isiah Walton: Color Coded
DESCRIPTION:Please join Acadiana Center for the Arts for a reception and private view of the forthcoming exhibition by John Isiah Walton in the Main Gallery, Color Coded.\nAttendees at this exclusive event will get a “first look” at the exhibition before it opens to the public and will have an opportunity to meet and toast the artist from the exhibit. The exhibition’s Curator will be on hand for personal tours through the evening.\nComplimentary beverages and entertainment will be provided.\nAbout the exhibition: \nJohn Isiah Walton: Color Coded\nSeven Years of Black Paintings 2016-2023\nMain Gallery Exhibition, February 11, 2023 – May 13, 2023\nThis exhibition is a survey of works created between 2016 and 2023 in Walton’s series of “Black Paintings.” Emerging from a common vein as the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, these works are a complex reflection on the artist’s personal experiences as a native New Orleanian and Black American male. Walton’s paintings engage in a dialogue about the contemporary moment on a variety of topics, including Black identity, computer culture, social media, pop culture, and New Orleans as a messy—but beautiful—heritage destination. This will be Walton’s largest solo exhibition to-date, showcasing nearly 100 original works.\n
