SUMMARY:Anne Boudreau: STANDING AT THE EDGE | then, now, when
DESCRIPTION:On “STANDING AT THE EDGE,” Anne Boudreau writes:\nOver the years, I have come to believe that the art I make is in essence self-portraiture — revealing my inner soul, beliefs, challenges, concerns, or any of the multifaceted nuances that make me who I am. In addition, I have realized that “standing at the edge” is a reoccurring position that I have revisited throughout my life. At times, nearing the edge brings about a sense of approaching something, and at other times, it designates a sense of moving away. These near-edge intervals are sometimes scary, enlightening, fun, life changing, or brought on by internal or external necessity or circumstance. Of late, I find myself, again, standing at another edge — this time the sensation feels more like a low-grade rumbling that is affecting not only my personal sphere, but also the greater social, political and environmental realms — those little and big things that affect and connect us all.\nAnne Boudreau is a native of New Orleans and currently resides in Lafayette, Louisiana. For over twenty-five years, she has been making, exhibiting and teaching visual art. Now semi-retired from full-time teaching, she happily teaches part-time in the Visual Art Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.\nBoudreau continues to make fiber based work that includes three-dimensional suspended and relief forms that are often presented as installation environments. She has more recently been exploring the possibilities in making two-dimensional fabric constructions. Most of the fabrics and sewing notions she uses in her work are either found at thrift stores, gifted from friends and acquaintances, or salvaged from the trash. Her gathering and use of repurposed materials is mainly motivated by her regard for our natural environment and her respect for our Earth.\nHer formal education includes an Associate of Arts degree from Delgado Community College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and sculpture from the University of South Carolina. Boudreau has been an artist member of the Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art since 1997.\n\n \n #gallery-1 {\n margin: auto;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-item {\n float: left;\n margin-top: 10px;\n text-align: center;\n width: 33%;\n }\n #gallery-1 img {\n border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-caption {\n margin-left: 0;\n }\n /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
