SUMMARY:The Art In Farming
DESCRIPTION:The Art in Farming is a project that fosters the collaboration between local artists and local farmers to celebrate the importance, joy, struggles, and rewards of sustainable agriculture, specifically in Southern Louisiana. Small-scale, sustainable growers provide the market products that are celebrated at farmers markets, but these farmers are often the least supported by the existing ag system. These growers invest a tremendous amount of time, effort, and passion into their trade, and our goal is to elevate their practices and celebrate their livelihood. By pairing farmers with local artists, we can give the farmers a new voice and a new connection to the community, while also giving local artists a distinct medium and story to tell.\nIn this iteration of The Art in Farming, three farms were visited: Earthshare Gardens run by Chris Adams, L4S Farms owned by Nicole Johnson and Travonic Lively, and Blazing Star Farm headed by Alisha Delahoussaye. Three artists were selected and visited each farm with intentions of creating at least three works of art reflecting each farm. The group of artists include Chase Julien, Kristie Cornell, and Liz Hebert. This project is curated by Bethany LeJeune.\nManaged by Chris Adams, this project is funded by a Community Collaborative grant, provided through The Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs at The LSU Manship School of Mass Communication.\n
