SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: The Medicine Show Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Tommy Comeaux Chair in Traditional Music with Sonny Landreth and a wide cast of musicians, friends, and traditional music students for a one-night-only performance that draws inspiration from the original Medicine Shows that helped establish the program. We will reunite some of the original musicians and supporters known as the “Comeauxians” and highlight the power of community-driven cultural investment. The concert will also highlight the intergenerational nature of Louisiana’s musical traditions, with students, elders, and peers performing side by side. We will celebrate the power of collective organizing and the way a community came together to transform loss into one of the country’s most distinctive traditional music programs.\nRooted in the community spirit that gave birth to the program, we honor the past, present, and future of traditional music in Louisiana – showcasing the breadth of the genres we teach and the relationships we’ve built as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Tommy Comeaux Endowed Chair in Traditional Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. We will celebrate the power of collective organizing and the way a community came together to transform loss into one of the country’s most distinctive traditional music programs.\nWith support from Lafayette Music Company\nThis show is show is sold out.
