Art Infused Writing

Kyla Ardoin & Julie Fox
February 20, 2019
For teachers of grades 2–5

Encouraging learners to explore curriculum and use writing to create meaningful personal discovery is a challenging task for many educators. What if the solution uses fun to facilitate genuine engagement through arts-infused experiences? This workshop equips teachers with strategies that integrate curriculum-based text, lively discussion of purposefully chosen artworks, the creation of original, authentic student expressions and content-focused writing. Teachers will come away with useful lessons that engage student writers, are standards-based, and easily applied to any curriculum. Workshop content is based on scholarly research embedded in Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), transmediation, and writing exercises developed by the Acadiana Writing Project.

Acadiana Center for the Arts

Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA) is a publicly supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are the central cultural hub of Acadiana, an eight-parish region comprised of Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion Parishes. From our origins as an arts council established in 1975, we have transformed into one of the largest arts organizations in Louisiana. AcA’s public facility is in the heart of downtown Lafayette featuring an intimate theater, large museum-quality galleries, as well as workshop, rehearsal, and office spaces.
