For teachers of grades 6–12
Kathy Reed will lead a hands-on workshop for teachers of middle to high school level students in the creation of a simple accordion-folded book, and the making of pages that are an intuitive response to a text or image. We will use the medium of collage, and experiment with different methods and techniques. Advice will be given for integrating this into your curriculum.
The workshop will feature a look at Heather Ryan Kelley’s exhibit in the AcA’s Main Gallery, Quiddity, and a discussion of the tradition of vanitas painting. We will explore the use of symbolic and metaphoric elements in art making, and how to respond non-verbally to the written word, as we craft our books.
Participants will leave with a packet of helpful information about art terms, collage techniques, and ways to generate artistic ideas.
