Imagine a world where people don’t leave their homes because all their community and culture comes to them at the touch of a button on the comfort of their couch.
While there’s nothing wrong with a night-in, more and more people have turned away from live experiences and living culture in favor of the screen, the smartphone. Imagine the empty restaurants, parks, theaters, and churches. In a world where we don’t come together, we will only grow more apart.
We partner with our schools to provide equal access to art and culture for all young people in their most formative years—regardless of neighborhood or ability to pay. We work closely with nursing homes and hospice caregivers to ensure the lives of our elders remain infused with the joy and inspiration that comes from our living culture.
From the earliest art experiences and on, AcA infuses art and culture into daily life, bringing joy and inspiration to the people of Acadiana.
We can do more. We can create more world-class arts experiences—life-changing performances, thought-provoking artwork, and cultural opportunities of all kinds—to get people off the couch and out of the house to come together with friends and family and to have the time of their lives.
We need to build new bridges for our young to participate in this cultural life. They are the future bearers of our traditions, and our invitation to them today will have a ripple effect for generations to come.
We need people to give to support the arts.
AcA can build the bridge, but we cannot make any person walk across it. Every year, another hub of community shuts its doors forever. If new audiences and supporters do not join the cause, we may eventually say goodbye to our most definitive gathering places and the culture that lives and is renewed daily through them.
Through your action, we will say with a resounding voice: ours is a culture of life and community. We will let the world know that the places where our culture flourishes are important because the more we connect people through art and culture, the more human and humane our world becomes.
