Luann Duhon: Bird is the Word

Luann Duhon is a clay artist who is inspired by the unique culture, landscape, and wildlife of South Louisiana. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then attended the University of Louisiana in Lafayette where she met her future husband, Jimmie Duhon. They married and raised their family in Lafayette. Luann began her career as a licensed florist in 1972. Working closely with flowers and design gave her greater insight into line, shape, and color, which has guided her as she creates a variety of functional, whimsical, and sculptural pieces in clay. Luann and Jimmie are active participants in the arts and music scene in Lafayette, and they have been volunteers with Festival International since it began. For the past several years, Luann has overseen the Petit Marche and helped organize the set up for the Marche des Arts.

In 2021, she was chosen as a festival poster artist in a collaboration with two other artists. She is a founding member of the Louisiana Crafts Guild and has exhibited her work in the vault at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. She has also been a vendor at Festivals Acadiens et Creoles and Festival International, among others.
