Summarize what you do for work!
I supervise fine arts, world languages, and French Immersion in the Vermilion Parish School System.
What do you love most about your job or company?
Everything! I love having the opportunity to support our exceptional arts and French teachers and to see students discover their passions. Watching them grow into confident musicians, artists, performers, and fluent French speakers is incredibly rewarding.
How long have you been a member of the AcA?
Just joined!!
Are you on the AcA Board and/or a Committee?
I am on the Arts in Education Committee
Why did you join AcA, and do you remember your first AcA experience?
My husband and I wanted to give back to an organization that has such a meaningful impact on our community. As a member of the Arts in Education Committee, I see firsthand what the AcA does for children. Students in Acadiana have the opportunity to attend live performances, participate in workshops led by teaching artists, and showcase their talents at Student Arts Expos. One of my earliest AcA experiences was enrolling my daughter in a visual arts summer camp. It was a top-notch program that she absolutely loved, and some of her artwork from that camp is proudly displayed in our home and in my office.
What has been your favorite performance or event hosted by AcA?
Staffland Stages: The Light and Legacy of Christopher Stafford
What is an AcA tradition, program, or annual event you look forward to every year?
Attending Student Arts Expos. It’s remarkable to see what students in Acadiana are creating and performing. We have outstanding arts educators and incredibly talented students in our region, and it’s wonderful to watch our downtown communities come alive with student art and performance.
What music are you listening to right now?
Very recently, my daughter played a song for me by the band Pinegrove. I’ve really enjoyed diving into their albums over the past few weeks. What makes this especially meaningful is that my own kiddo is sharing great music with me…music I somehow missed along the way. It is so fun that we get to discover and enjoy music together!
Do you have a hobby or craft that fills your spare time?
Most of my spare time revolves around music and the performing arts. I love getting out to attend live performances, and when I’m lucky, I get to play a little music with my friends and family. I also have a blast playing cymbals with the Vainqueur Drumline in the Krewe de Canailles Parade. Volunteering fills my time as well, especially in the spring. For more than a decade, I’ve volunteered with Festival International, serving on the Board of Directors in the past and currently managing an area at Scène Lafayette.
What was the first concert you ever attended?
The Pointer Sisters at Nicholls State University. I was about seven years old, and I remember it like it was yesterday. My dad brought me to this packed concert in the football stadium, and we were standing near the front row. He put me on his shoulders, and I felt like I was on stage! The lights, the costumes, those beautiful harmonies! It was mesmerizing. That night truly fueled my lifelong passion for music.
Tell us about your favorite vacation or place you’ve traveled to.
Our family loves traveling in our camper, and we’ve visited so many incredible places; however, Big Bend National Park was something special. It’s remote, beautiful, and has a mystical charm that’s hard to put into words. It was also the first time we were able to see the stars and the Milky Way so clearly, as we camped in a Dark Sky Community. It remains one of our most memorable trips.
