Membership Spotlight – Dan Hare

February 27, 2025

Dan Hare

Profession: Director of Community Engagement with the UL Alumni Association

How long have you been a member of AcA? Since July 2013

Are you on the AcA Board and/or a Committee? Board Member Emeritus, 50th Anniversary Committee, Louisiana Music Museum Committee

What books are you reading? Henri Bendel and the Worlds He Fashioned by Tim Allis

Do you have a favorite pastime? If so, what is it? Spending time with friends and family

What’s the first concert you ever attended? Eagles, 1976, Baton Rouge

What has been your favorite vacation or place that you’ve traveled to? Why? Traveling to a beach for a vacation is my favorite destination – Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, Punta Cana, France, Greece – there is something about relaxing near the water that is very appealing.

Have you lived outside of Acadiana? Born, raised, and lifetime resident of Lafayette. The people and our rich culture make Acadiana a special place to live.

Do you frequent any Downtown establishments? Which ones and what’s your go-to cocktail or lite bite? In recent years, the AcA is the Downtown establishment that I have frequented the most, but there are several locally-owned businesses where I have enjoyed their offerings on numerous occasions.

What do you do in a nutshell? Networking on behalf of UL

Why did you join AcA, and do you recall your first experience with AcA? I was president of the board for the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana when it merged with the AcA. Myself and several other board members transitioned onto the AcA board at the time.

What has been your favorite performance or event hosted by AcA? There have been a number of great performances and events hosted by the AcA so it is hard to narrow it down to just one of each.

As we celebrate 50 years of AcA, we’d love to know – what’s a standout memory you have with the Acadiana Center for the Arts? As an active volunteer board member, there have been many hours spent behind the scenes over the years where good work has been done. In addition to that, being crowned as the first King of Gulf Brew as a result of the generosity of supporters and being an honoree of the 2023 Pelican Ball as Board Member Emeritus were definitely highlights of my years of service.

What advice would you give to someone who hasn’t experienced AcA yet? You are welcome to visit the AcA to see all that it has to offer. Volunteer for one of the many opportunities available. Buy a ticket to a performance and enjoy!
