Kim Bullen: Memèré Luziane

December 17, 2025

In the months leading up to Pelican Ball, AcA invites one of our exceptionally talented local artists to design and create a one-of-a-kind piece for auction. The 2025 Pelican Ball saw the return of Kim Bullen!

Kim Bullen is a Louisiana native whose mixed-media paintings invite viewers to pause, lean in, and rediscover the wonder woven into the world around them. Rooted in the quiet imagination of her Delta childhood and shaped by years of observing the quiet unseen realm that hums beneath it all, her work blends folk influences, Southern storytelling, and nods to artists like Audubon into richly layered pieces alive with hidden treasures. Whether she’s painting pelicans, Native figures, or symbols of Louisiana culture, Kim’s art is meant to awaken what we often overlook—those small, sacred details that stir a smile, spark memory, and feel like a whispered reminder that beauty is everywhere if we’re willing to look twice.

Her piece titled Memèré Luziane was commissioned for auction at the 2025 Pelican Ball on December 6th. The work weaves in the treasures of Acadiana’s culture and pays homage to how Acadiana Center for the Arts has fostered and nurtured our dynamic arts community.
