Cannon Gauthreaux: Suffer on Silent

Artist Statement

Cannon Gauthreaux is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on filmmaking, though he embraces any medium necessary to tell a story. Born in Houma, Louisiana, he developed a passion for the arts at a young age. After briefly drifting away from creative work, a New Media class during his high school years opened his eyes to creative filmmaking, reigniting that passion and setting him on a new artistic path.

Cannon later attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a degree in New Media and Digital Art in 2025. There, he discovered a love for absurdist story telling across multiple formats, from experimental films to expressive sculptures. His work explores themes of humanity, liminality and technology, specifically examining how these forces intertwine and shape one another. Now a graduate, Cannon continues to investigate how these elements influence the human condition.

“Exploring the mysteries of human nature and examining the motives behind people’s actions pilots my artistic expression. The impressionable environments which people choose to either actively insert themselves into, or adamantly avoid, captivate me. I am particularly drawn to spaces which were once full of life but now lie desolate, rarely touched by human presence. These liminal feelings are tools I use to evoke a slight sense of unease, trapping the viewer into my piece. Anomalies of the mind ultimately spur my aesthetic, while my pieces journey through time’s intermediate and mediate periods.”
