Creative Acadiana: Demystifying Augmented Reality with Francis Pavy

Augmented Reality has evolved beyond standalone app development. With the rise of WebAR, spatial experiences now run directly inside mobile web browsers, removing technical friction and making immersive media universally accessible. This lecture offers a conceptual guide to browser-based AR, breaking down how spatial experiences are structured using the Hololink platform. We will explore the technical frameworks behind Hololink’s six primary scene types and examine how each shapes user interaction.

The session covers how Image Tracking anchors content to physical prints, how 360° Camera scenes construct immersive panoramic environments, and how Simple and Advanced Surface Tracking utilize spatial mapping and depth sensing to place digital objects onto real-world tables, floors, and walls. Additionally, we will analyze how Static scenes provide non-tracked UI layers for onboarding and how Junction scenes enable non-linear, multi-target journeys.

Attendees will walk away with a comprehensive understanding of WebAR mechanics, scene architecture, and spatial storytelling principles to inform future immersive projects.

About the Facilitator

Louisiana artist Francis X. Pavy creates “narrative abstraction” inspired by Southern folklore and music. A UL Lafayette alum, his vibrant works across painting, sculpture, and VR capture the rhythm of zydeco and blues.
