Acadiana Wind Symphony presents Uncharted Journey
Celebrating thirty years of music making in 2024, The Acadian Wind Symphony presents a concert of favorite works performed throughout the past thirty years along with the world premier of “Uncharted Journey” by local composer Andrew Morgan Smith.
Winner of the prestigious American Prize Competition in the Performing Arts in 2021, The Acadian Wind Symphony was founded during the summer of 1994 by conductor Gerald Guilbeaux with a special invitation to professional and amateur wind and percussion players from the South Louisiana. The ensemble is a collection of some of Acadiana’s top instrumentalists dedicated to the performance of traditional and contemporary masterworks for band. It provides an opportunity for serious wind players and percussionists from the Lafayette area to share in the highest level of musical expression and artistry and offers audiences with standards of the band repertoire and exciting new works.
The perfect “getaway” from the heat of summer, this concert is a whirlwind tour de force and an exquisitely colorful and vibrant musical experience featuring music performed by the AWS over the past thirty years. The concert will open with “Festive Overture” by Dmitri Shostakovich and in addition to the world premier of “Uncharted Journey” by Andrew Morgan Smith, the program will include works by Warren Barker, Johan de Meij and Louisiana native Frank Ticheli.
