Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods – Exhibit Opening
“Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods” is a dynamic, community-centered arts project that shines a spotlight on local neighborhoods through the eyes of residents—youth and adults alike. This multi-phase initiative invites participants to document the places they call home through photography, storytelling, and oral history. The project centers voices and perspectives that have historically been underrepresented, helping residents reclaim and reshape their community narratives.
A museum exhibit will be formed that displays pictures from a range of photographers from novices to professionals. Photos will be mounted on foam board, accompanied by narrative statements and a label that notes photographer and neighborhood. The exhibit will include up to 100 images displayed throughout the 4000 square foot building. Photos that were not printed, will appear in a continual slide show.
