Rawer than Raw: Blues Legend Bobby Rush Visits Lafayette for AcA AllStars show

LAFAYETTE, LA – American Blues legend Bobby Rush performs at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on June 16 at 7:30pm, as part of the AllStars Series, presented by the Law Offices of Boussard and David.

Rush is a two-time GRAMMY Award winner, six-time GRAMMY Award nominee, and 13-time Blues Music Award winner.

Tickets are available online at acadianacenterforthearts.org and through the AcA’s Box Office 9am-5pm Tue-Sat (337-233-7060, 101 W. Vermilion Street, Downtown Lafayette).

In a new autobiography titled “I Ain’t Studdin’ Ya: My American Blues Story” (Due out from Hachette Books on June 22, 2022) Rush recounts his lifetime as a Bluesman from Homer, Louisiana. AcA will also host a public interview, reading, and Q&A with Rush hosted by Herman Fuselier at 5:30pm on June 16.

An innovative Blues musician, composer, and singer, Rush and his unmistakable style incorporates elements of blues, rap, and funk. Rush has been making records for 70 years and is featured in more than 400 recordings, 75 career releases, and now 27 studio albums to his name.

After earning a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album and a Blues Music Award for Album of the Year for his studio recording Porcupine Meat in 2017, he spent a year writing his follow-up. In 2019, at age 85, he released “Sitting on Top of the Blues” with eleven original tracks, earning him another Blues Music Award and Grammy Award nomination.

Rush, who turned 88 in November, is not done yet. With the release of his 2020 album Rawer Than Raw, an all-acoustic effort that pays tribute to the rich blues history of Mississippi, Rush has cemented his reputation as one of the preeminent bluesmen in the world, one of the last living links to the music’s glorious past, and an inspiration for its future stars. The album just won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album, his second Grammy Award and sixth nomination.

In the AllStars series, AcA presents well-known artists, rising-stars, and newcomers to the area in a multitude of genres, from Rock, Indie, Alt, and Folk to R&B, Blues, and Soul—from Bluegrass and Country to World, African, Caribbean, and Jazz. These artists represent diverse voices and backgrounds.

In the AllStars Series, presented by the Law Offices of Broussard & David, AcA aims to give you the ‘night of your life’ in Downtown Lafayette.
