Soft Sculpture
From UL’s College of the Arts 3D Design class led by Bethany Lejeune
Students were asked to select an object they considered a tool, explore that object through drawings, and recreate it through a stuffed fabric form. Each recreated soft-sculpture ‘tool’ had to be at least three times the size of the original object, employ either an analogous or complementary color scheme, and contain one outlying texture. Per the project, all components of each soft- sculpture had to be joined only through hand sewing. Students were asked to consider how their piece would feel if someone picked it up- soft, hard, slimy, fuzzy, pokey, etc., and whether or not to emphasize areas of impact, use, or handling to help incorporate the color scheme and texture requirements.
