How long have you been a member of AcA? 4 years.
Do you frequent any Downtown establishments? Which ones and what’s your go-to cocktail or lite bite? The downtown spot I probably frequent the most is Wild Child Wines… for both the good vibes and good wine-love a chilled red!
What are your artistic goals for 2024? A personal goal this year is to make more time for my own creative expression and development- I’ve mostly worked with block printing over the last few years but I’d like to get back into painting a bit… possibly a series of portraits of my cat, she’s my muse.
What is an accomplishment that you are most proud of? Through my involvement with AcA, I’ve learned more about their mission to bring art education to students throughout Acadiana. I’ve even taught one of those classes myself through a grant awarded to Myrtle Place- the kindergartners beamed with excitement as together we peeled up carved foam to reveal their very own block print. The experience was both an accomplishment for me and a reminder of how important new and creative experiences are for the developing minds of our youngest community members!
Why did you join AcA, and do you recall your first experience with AcA? I became a member of AcA because I found myself spending a lot of time there- for art walks, musical performances, working from the AcA Café, etc- and figured I should become more involved in this great resource that I was already utilizing.
What has been your favorite performance or event hosted by AcA? Two stand out shows for me were Brandon Ballengée: The Age of Loneliness and Rodney Crowell’s AllStars Series performance. I’m forever grateful to AcA for allowing me to experience such important and powerful art literally 5 minutes from my home.
What’s your favorite part of being a member of AcA? My favorite part of AcA membership is being a part of the community it creates. Insider events allow for meeting and socializing with people who I may not have met otherwise- yet share common interests and passions with myself. I’ve had the privilege to lead an interactive block printing activity at one of those events which led to many positive connections.
