Andrea Kapell Loewy is Principal Flutist of the Acadiana Symphony and has played several concertos with the orchestra.  Other orchestral work includes Principal Flute of the Orchestra of the State of Mexico,  and Guest Principal Flutist of the Shanghai Symphony. She has presented four recital/teaching tours in China and has given a solo recital in England. She has also performed at several National Flute Conventions including those in New Orleans, St. Louis,  Kansas City, Chicago, Dallas, and New York City. Loewy has concertized extensively with Yuling Huang- Davie, pianist, at numerous colleges and art centers throughout the United States. She has served as Chair of the National Flute Association’s Newly- Published Music Committee. Centaur Records  released her CD of contemporary flute works titled Apparitions and Whimsies. Loewy, Professor Emerita of University of Louisiana at Lafayette, holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, a Master of Music from Emporia State University where she played concerts throughout the Midwest with the Mid America Woodwind Quintet, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Memphis University. Her teachers include Joseph Mariano, Harold Bennett, Samuel Baron, Philip Kaplan, Bruce Erskine, and John Heiss. She was awarded the university’s  “Distinguished Professor Award” and held the Heymann II Endowed Professorship in Music.
