Jammie Parbhoo

Profession: Realtor

How long have you been a member of AcA? I’ve been a member of the President Circle for 2 years.

What books are you reading? I prefer to listen to books on my morning walks. I’m currently listening to “The Busy Brain Cure.”

What music are you listening to? I listen to various artists throughout the day, it depends on my mood. Lately, I’ve been listening to First Ais Kit, Ojos De Brujo, Emily Wells, Angus & Julia Stone, Café Tacuba to name a few.

What trade do you believe everyone ought to learn? Waiting tables is a very important trade that I feel everyone should experience at least once. It teaches patience, multitasking, listening skills and teaches you how to read the room. It also helps your communication skills.

What has been your favorite vacation or place that you’ve traveled to? Why? Traveling is the most important education that you can give your children. When you travel, you are immersed in learning about the people, food and culture around you. Growing up my parents gave me many opportunities to travel. At 5 years old, I had my first passport. My favorite life experience was when we sold our home in Takoma Park, Maryland and traveled the world for 4 and a half months with our then 3 year old daughter. We started in Amsterdam and ended our trip in Cambodia & Thailand. It’s difficult to choose a favorite place, but the most memorable were in Tunisia and India. We stayed 6 weeks in both places and were able to really immerse ourselves. Truly incredible lifetime experience.

Have you lived outside of Acadiana? Where? I was born and raised in Lafayette, but I moved to Washington DC in my early 20s after meeting my soulmate, Sami Parbhoo.

What makes Acadiana a special place to live? Sami and I moved back to Lafayette with our three children in the early 2000s. I’m from Lafayette and we were ready to be back and raise our children here and to be close to our families. Lafayette has so much to offer with different events, festivals, and good times that are all family friendly. That’s why I love Lafayette so much.

Do you frequent any Downtown establishments? I love downtown Lafayette and support many of the establishments. Downtown is my go-to place to hang out with friends and family.

Which ones and what’s your go-to cocktail or lite bite? Vestal is a favorite. They have the best cocktails! The ambiance and service are top-notch. My favorite appetizers are Crudo, Raw Oysters, and the Mussels to name a few.

What do you do in a nutshell? As a realtor I help guide sellers & buyers through the process for a successful sale or purchase, negotiate contracts, administrative tasks that include research and review of properties that are listed/sold/pending, discuss terms on the contract, schedule inspections & appraisals, complete necessary paperwork and forms, coordinate the closing process with the buyer’s agent, lender and title attorney, help with title situations that may arise, just to name a few important tasks.

What are your favorite aspects of your job and company? Building relationships with people is my favorite part. I enjoy working with people to make their home buying or selling experience stress free and enjoyable. At the end of the day it’s all about them making their dreams come true.

If you could mentor someone who is just starting out in your field, what advice would you give them? My advice to a new realtor is the best way to set yourself up for success is to build your database and communicate with your sphere of influence. Communication is key! Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone, that’s where the magic happens.

What industry publications do you listen to, watch, or read? I enjoy listening to the Hustle Humbly podcast. They are realtors in the Baton Rouge area, they are fun to listen to and have great advice on various topics of the real estate industry.

Why did you join AcA, and do you recall your first experience with AcA? I joined AcA to support their dedication to the vibrant arts and culture in our community. The opportunities created to help artists, teachers, organizations and schools are vital. AcA continues to build a better community within the arts, I love being a part of it and watching them thrive.

What has been your favorite performance or event hosted by AcA? There are so many wonderful events held at the AcA, it’s a great venue! The space is beautiful. A few of my favorites would be The Wood Brothers, Brother Dege, Ms. Warbucks the Musical, the AllStars Series, Louisiana Crossroads, The Secret Sisters, and so many others.
